Making a splash: Tyrol’s most beautiful swimming lakes

From the city heat straight into cool Tyrolean blue

Tired of hot pavements, shimmering air, and no chance to catch your breath? In the heat of summer, Tyrol’s lakes have the answer – a refreshing plunge into the loveliest waters in the Alps.

You know the feeling: not a breeze stirring in the city, shade nowhere to be found, the heat settling over everything like a heavy blanket. This is exactly when the Tyrolean Alps start calling: get out of the concrete grey and into the turquoise blue. Because Tyrol knows how to do summer. Rather well, actually. Here are the most beautiful swimming lakes in Tyrol, each one ideal for a day trip from the Hotel Klosterbräu. So grab a towel, pull on your swimsuit, and off you go.

Lake Möserer

Our top tip, with views to match. Lake Möserer sits at an elevation of 1,292 metres on the Seefeld Plateau – practically on the doorstep of the Hotel Klosterbräu. Small, peaceful, and family-friendly, it's the perfect spot for a spontaneous lakeside afternoon.

  • Perfect for: families with children, relaxation seekers, anyone after a quick escape, and Klosterbräu guests in a spontaneous mood
  • Distance from Seefeld: approx. 5 km / around 8 minutes by car

Lake Walchsee in Kaiserwinkl

There’s always something happening at Lake Walchsee – especially out on the water. One of the windiest lakes in Tyrol, it’s a real hotspot for windsurfers and kitesurfers. But it’s not all action: the water is warm, and the whole place has an easy-going feel. Wade in, catch the breeze, unwind.

  • Perfect for: windsurfers, kitesurfers, families, active holidaymakers, and anyone who likes their lake day with a little more action
  • Distance from Seefeld: approx. 110 km / around 1.5 hours by car

Lake Achensee

Big. Blue. Breathtaking. As the largest lake in Tyrol, Lake Achensee more than lives up to its billing. Its waters shimmer in a shade of blue that’s been drawing holidaymakers back for generations. Sail boats glide across the surface, swimmers splash about happily – in short, it’s a lake for anyone who likes their fun on the water on a grand scale.

  • Perfect for: families, sailors, swimmers, leisurely souls, and day-trippers of all ages
  • Distance from Seefeld: approx. 75 km / around 60 minutes by car
