Sustainble holidays – but how?
The Seefeld region has the answer.
Learn how the Austrian region of Seefeld and Hotel Klosterbräu are making winter holidays sustainable in the long term.Crisp mountain air, stunning landscapes, boundless slopes – ski holidays in the Seefeld region are absolutely wonderful. And one thing is certain: To ensure that our children and grandchildren will get to spend their winter holidays here as well, we need to put the right strategies in place today.
Pioneers of sustainable tourism
The Seefeld region has really gone the extra mile: The tourism association has developed strategies, networked stakeholders, and identified potential in the area of sustainability. The reward: Seefeld was the first region to be awarded the Austrian Ecolabel for Destinations. And is more than proud of it!
Our seven tips for sustainable winter holidays
- Choose sustainable ski resorts: Numerous ski resorts in the Seefeld region are putting great emphasis on sustainability. From CO2 reduction to energy from hydropower and reforestation – things are happening!
- Book eco-certified hotels: We have a great tip for you ;-) After all, Hotel Klosterbräu is regarded as a model for the region. Why? We’ll tell you here.
- Arrive by train: The keyword is soft mobility. We support environmentally friendly arrivals.
- Use sustainable means of transport in the ski resort: Leave your car at home – in the Seefeld region, it’s easy to reach your destination quickly and comfortably by public transport and shuttle bus.
- Stay on the slope: Because deer, foxes, and mountain hares don’t like to be disturbed. Do not leave the marked area and choose the ascent routes at the edge of the slope when ski touring.
- Choose regional, seasonal, and organic indulgence: This is not only sustainable, but also super tasty.
- Try gentle winter activities: How about winter hiking, cross-country skiing, ice skating, or a horse-drawn sleigh ride? You’ll experience the beauty of the mountains in a whole new way.
An interview with: Elias Walser from the Seefeld Tourism Association
How can an entire region be sustainable? Former ski racer and Olympic champion Benni Raich wants to get to the bottom of this question. And so he interviews Elias Walser from the Seefeld Tourist Board. “The kind of tourism we offer in the Seefeld region only works if you pay attention to the environment, social cohesion, and economic viability,” says Walser.
An interview with: Alois Seyrling from Hotel Klosterbräu
At Hotel Klosterbräu, we think sustainably. We use our own wood, practise organic farming, generate our own energy, and do so much more besides. Alois Seyrling gives a look behind the scenes.
Dear Klosterbräu Family,
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you to EVERYONE for the countless messages and the incredible outpouring of support. Please know that we are all safe.
At present, we are still in an orientation phase and in close coordination with authorities and partners. As difficult as it is for us to say: based on current information, we unfortunately will not be able to welcome you during the upcoming summer season. Our major goal, however, is to reopen the Klosterbräu at the beginning of December 2026. We are currently contacting all reservations that fall within this period. Thank you for your patience.
We are doing everything in our power—with full commitment, day by day—to make this possible. Over the course of the summer, we will be able to better assess whether this timeline can be met.
To stay closely connected with us, we warmly invite you to follow our latest updates via our WhatsApp channel, Instagram, Facebook, or by subscribing to our newsletter.
There is one thing we can say with full conviction:
Alongside the necessary reconstruction work, we will also bring our heartfelt projects to life—
including the expansion of the wellness area, a new natural swimming pond, new rooms, and the renovation of the existing spa.
Something new is being created—while at the same time preserving what lies at the very heart of the Klosterbräu.
Because we know:
What truly lives within the Klosterbräu cannot be taken by fire—rooted in its history, new beauty will rise from the ashes.
With warm regards
Your hosts
